Traditional and Modern Massage Techniques
A sports massage post event is the best thing you can do for your body in order to prevent injury and days or weeks of soreness. Even if you are sore a post-event massage will be completely enjoyable for you – remember severe pain and discomfort is not the goal when receiving a bodywork session. Our therapist’s focus is to ensure that muscles are being treated with the utmost care, so pain is released and they are once again returned to full extension.
The main goal of a Swedish massage is to help increase the flow of oxygen in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. Swedish massage reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and can be an integral part of a regular program for stress management. Without increasing the load on the heart, it increases circulation. Another benefit of swedish massage is that it stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time.
Swedish massage techniques include: long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions.
Swedish massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well being. If the phrase “I need a vacation after my vacation” sounds all too familiar to you, I suggest you try integrating a Massage Therapy session into your stay on Folly Beach. A massage at the beginning of a vacation helps alleviate travel lag, and one at the end sends you home with nice long relaxed muscles.
Deep Tissue Massage
Not to be confused with a massage where you feel like you are being pushed through the table. Our therapists go only as deep as your body will loosen and accept the pressure. Deep does not equal pain, you should feel lighter and free moving after the session.
Did you kayak too much over the weekend? Over exert yourself on the golf course? Tweak your back getting out of bed? A Therapeutic Deep Tissue massage session is great for pain relief, quick recovery from over exertion and rehab of an injury which is no longer in the acute stage. Scar tissue is often dispersed with deep tissue friction as well as “working” out a “knot” or muscle spasm which has lingered too long in a person’s body.
Deep Tissue work is best when staying within the 7-8 range on a 1-10 scale of intensity. Drink plenty of water before and after your session to help your body flush out unnecessary particles. Most of all, remember to breathe, as this is often the missing ingredient in a relaxed body.
